Maxim Kontsevich has won the “for his pioneering works in algebra, geometry and mathematical physics and in particular deformation quantization, motivic integration and mirror symmetry.” The prize carries with it a monetary award of US$1 million. Kontsevich is a permanent professor at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques and a distinguished professor at the University of Miami.
