Research Cluster on Linguistics and Language Education Presents: Prof. Taeun Min on James Joyce, Ireland and Korea

Research Cluster on Linguistics and Language Education proudly invites you to a presentation by CUE’s visiting scholar from South Korea, Professor Taeun Min 辞苍听January 26 at noon in HA206. Prof Min presents “James Joyce, Ireland and Korea


Ireland was constructed as a woman victimized by a colonizing England, and Joyce in his work described her history as a 鈥渘ightmare.鈥 Similarly, Korea has a long history of suffering at the hands of a neighbor and of excruciating poverty. The intensity of sorrow lodged in the deepest recesses of the Irish and Korean psyche are implied in songs such as 鈥渢he Lass of Aughrim鈥 and the Korean 鈥淎rirang.鈥 Professor Min from South Korea will share his experience in teaching Joyce in language and literature classroom in different countries.

Taeun Min is a聽Professor of English at Chonnam National University, and studied at Sogang University (B.A.) and Seoul National University (M.A.). He received his PhD from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He has served The James Joyce Society of Korea as the president. He is the author of James Joyce鈥檚 Novel (2001), Joyce鈥檚 Dublin (2005), and Joyce, Gender, and Aesthetics (2013).
